I just came back not long ago from my Magic Audition. Basically, this is what happen for the day.
Prepared myself and then went out, and it was freaking raining damn big that when i reach, I have to be in the rain to get to the building. And when it ends, I have to walk out in the rain to get a damn cab back home. (Hopefully I don't fall sick)
Okie, REVIEW:
The comments I had was: I should have brought the table forward and present my show to everyone then targeting on the audience that I pick for my effects.
My comment: This is one point that I din notice, mainly because I used to doing my blindfold act and always have a distance from the crowd that I forget that my close up magic have to be close up audience. Also, as I not used to doing cards magic, (Because all this while, I doing my blindfold) so I do have my phobia and auto system to keep a distance from the audiences.
But! I will say I did okie for the effects, nothing went wrong, except the handling, because of the angle, the most senstive part of the effects are exposed, which is the reason why I should have moved forward to do my magic.
2nd Comments: I should have do a proper clean up for the screw up i made.
My comment: Correct, this is the most important part in magic when something went wrong. I believe its also the hardest, because its hard to practise and hard to come by. And basically, I din end the screw up well, and I should have jokingly pass it on. Very important thing to take note.
3rd Comments: The linking part of mentalism and mentalist effect does not go well with me doing card magic in the beginning.
My comment: Basically, my expectation was like a cascual magic for fellow magicians, but I was told on the spot that I suppose to perform for "laymen" and do a 6-8 min act. Which i never prepared myself to do so for that. Normally, if you guys know, If I do my blindfold act, I never introduce myself that I know card magic and then do a mental act, but, I talk about blind reading, mind over body stuffs, then do my magic.
While in this sense, I thought of introducing myself to a group of friends than laymen. A mistake that I made after realising it. So the actual presentation will be, "My name is Larry, and I being in the field of magic for 4 years, and later on, I will do some basic card magic for all of you, also not forgetting the mind, I will do more magic abt the mind that will blow all of you away."
So ya, i guess its because its hard to visualise magicians friend to become laymen that I keep doing mistakes, like calling Iron Will his name cascually but he should be someone that I don't know.
4th Comments: the 3 symbols routine, I should just go ahead and do the magic and provide a mystic feeling that "What is inside the card" then opening the card to show each of the card and closing it again.
My comment: I agree with this part, and I never thought of that. Should implement it.
I guess these are the important comments and serious one. I have to admit, I not that good in close up magic but I will strive to improve myself. Also, Its so damn hard and different to do for fellow magicians, where your mind is flooded with, they know it, and very hard to switch it to, I totally dun know them concept. Have to learn from that.
All in all, i love this presentation and know where I really stands. :)
